Literacy Waitakere  currently holds funding contracts for literacy provision from the Tertiary Education Commission for Adult Community Education In Communities (ACEIC), and  through the Ministry of Social Development for  people with identified special needs;  some tuition is also funded through Community Education hours available through Rutherford College Community Education, and also through specific workplace literacy contracts.

We would like to gratefully acknowledge the following organisations. Their support ensures that Literacy Waitakere can continue to work effectively:

Literacy Waitakere was lucky to be chosen as a finalist for The Trusts Million Dollar Mission this year, a fresh new funding model that give the community the choice of how the money is allocated. One million dollars was made available for community groups, and individuals were able to vote once a day for the cause of their choice, until the $1,000,000 was allocated. Each vote gave the finalist $5.

Voters had to submit an email address and have it validated, as a way of monitoring the one-vote-per-person-per-day, which was a challenge for our organisation, as many of our learners do not have email addresses, or even computer skills! However we raised $13,445 in 21 days with the keen support of family and friends. Many thanks to all of those who voted so regularly!

Volunteerism is the basis of any community organisation, and Literacy Waitakere, while funded by government contracts, can only offer a comprehensive service with the help of considerable volunteer time and energy, mostly provided by our qualified staff, in addition to their paid hours.
