The Adult Literacy and Life Skill (ALL) Survey (2006) shows that 51% of New Zealanders need help to read and process mathematical and numerical information (numeracy).
Competence with everyday maths in the workplace can have a positive effect on:
- accurate measurements
- timekeeping
- time scheduling
- costing
- reducing waste
Employees who are more confident in their ability to do work related maths may be more productive and loyal and more willing to pursue further qualifications. Apprentices need numeracy to achieve their unit standards.
