Literacy Waitakere was nominated in the Innovative Provider category in the 2018 Festival of Adult Learning Ahurei Ākonga awards on Saturday September 1st.
Literacy Waitakere has been providing a wide range of high quality programmes in the West Auckland community for over thirty years. Throughout this time the Centre has never wavered from its kaupapa of providing student- centred programmes, no matter what external pressures the organisation has had to face. This has been achieved through the organisation always having a strong focus on tutor professional development, innovative approaches to programme development and delivery, a continuous commitment to quality assurance and stable governance and management structures. To meet the individual needs of each learner, programmes are tailored and inclusive of pastoral care measures that support learners to succeed in their learning. In contexts such as workplaces, this also means raising the employer’s awareness of literacy and numeracy needs.
Literacy Waitakere has made a significant contribution to the adult and community education sector through not only providing quality programmes but also actively working in collaboration to promote lifelong learning.
